# Export a deck to Google Slides or PowerPoint

> Export a StratEngine deck as Google Slides when Google Drive is your export destination, or download it as a PowerPoint file otherwise.

To export a deck, open its strategy brief and click **Export** in the toolbar. What you get depends on your [export destination](/docs/account/connections): with Google Drive connected, StratEngine creates Google Slides in your Drive and opens them. With any other destination, or none, it downloads a PowerPoint (`.pptx`) file.

## What you get

| Your export destination | Result |
| - | - |
| Google Drive | Google Slides in your own Drive, opened in a new tab. A **View Slides** link is added to the toolbar. |
| Dropbox, OneDrive or Box | A PowerPoint file, downloaded by your browser. |
| None connected | A PowerPoint file, downloaded by your browser. StratEngine doesn't ask you to connect storage first. |

To get Google Slides instead of PowerPoint, connect Google Drive as your export destination in **Settings**. See [Connect cloud storage](/docs/account/connections).

## Export the deck

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the strategy brief">
    Open the brief the deck was built from. The **Export** button appears once the brief has a deck. If you don't see it, [generate a deck](/docs/strategy/decks/generate) first.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Click Export">
    The button changes to **Exporting...** and a progress bar appears under the toolbar.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the result">
    Google Slides open in a new tab, or your browser downloads the PowerPoint file. If a new tab doesn't open, allow pop-ups for StratEngine and click **View Slides**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

**Export** uses the deck as it was last generated. If the deck shows **Outdated**, click **Regenerate Deck** first so the export matches the current brief. See [Outdated decks](/docs/strategy/decks/outdated).

Each export makes a new copy. Exporting again doesn't update a copy you exported earlier.

## Find exported Google Slides later

* On the brief, click **View Slides** in the toolbar. It opens your most recent export.
* In **File Manager**, filter by **Presentations**. Each export is listed with the project name and the export date. See [File Manager](/docs/strategy/file-manager).

PowerPoint downloads aren't listed in StratEngine. Look in your browser's downloads folder.

## Fonts in Google Slides and PowerPoint

Decks use two fixed fonts: Carlito for body text and Bricolage Grotesque for headings. When you open an exported deck in Google Slides, the font menu shows **Carlito**. That's expected and isn't an error: Carlito is the font the deck was designed with, and keeping it stops text from reflowing. Brand kits don't change fonts. See [Brand kits](/docs/strategy/decks/brand-kits#fonts-are-fixed).

## If the export fails

| Message | What to do |
| - | - |
| **Generate a deck before exporting.** | Click **Generate Deck**, then **Export**. |
| **Export failed. Please try again in a few minutes. If this persists, please contact support.** | Wait a few minutes and try again. If it keeps failing, [contact support](/docs/account/contact). |
