# Generate a deck

> Turn a strategy brief into a presentation deck with Generate Deck, apply a brand kit, and reopen the deck later with View Deck.

To turn a strategy brief into a presentation, open the brief and click **Generate Deck** in the toolbar. If you have brand kits, pick one (or none) and click **Generate**. StratEngine builds the deck and opens it in a new browser tab. Afterwards, **View Deck** reopens it at any time.

  Decks are private to you, like the brief they come from. To show one to someone else, [share it with a link](/docs/strategy/decks/share-links) or [export it](/docs/strategy/decks/export). Research reports don't have a deck option.

## Build the deck

  <Step title="Open the strategy brief">
    Open the brief from **File Manager**, or stay on it after an analysis finishes.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Click Generate Deck">
    Click **Generate Deck** in the toolbar at the top right.

  <Step title="Choose branding">
    If you have at least one [brand kit](/docs/strategy/decks/brand-kits), the **Deck branding** window opens: **Choose the palette this deck is rendered with.** Pick a kit, or **No branding (StratEngine theme)**, and click **Generate**. Click **Cancel** to stop without building anything.

    If you have no brand kits, this step is skipped and the deck uses the StratEngine theme.

  <Step title="Wait for the deck">
    The button changes to **Building...** and a progress bar under the toolbar shows the current stage (for example **Building your presentation…**) with a percentage. You can keep reading the brief while it works.

  <Step title="View the deck">
    When the deck is ready, it opens in a new browser tab. If nothing opens, your browser blocked the tab: allow pop-ups for StratEngine and click **View Deck**.

## After the deck is built

Once a brief has a deck, the toolbar changes:

| Toolbar item | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Regenerate Deck** | Replaces **Generate Deck**. Builds a new deck from the brief as it is now. See [Outdated decks](/docs/strategy/decks/outdated). |
| **View Deck** | Opens the saved deck in a new tab. Viewing never rebuilds it. |
| **Share** | Creates a link anyone can open. See [Share a deck with a link](/docs/strategy/decks/share-links). |
| **Export** | Saves the deck as Google Slides or a PowerPoint file. See [Export a deck](/docs/strategy/decks/export). |
| **Outdated** | Appears when the brief has changed since the deck was built. |

The deck also appears in **File Manager** as its own row, so you can open it without opening the brief first. See [File Manager](/docs/strategy/file-manager).

## What the deck uses

* **Content:** the brief's current text, including any changes you made with **Edit with AI**. To change what the deck says, edit the brief first, then regenerate.
* **Colors:** the brand kit you picked, or the StratEngine theme.
* **Fonts:** fixed for every deck (Carlito for body text and Bricolage Grotesque for headings). Brand kits change colors, not fonts.

## If something goes wrong

| Message | What to do |
| - | - |
| **Deck generation failed. Please try again in a few minutes. If this persists, please contact support.** | Wait a few minutes and click **Generate Deck** again. If it keeps failing, [contact support](/docs/account/contact). |
| **The deck was generated but could not be opened. Try View Deck.** | Click **View Deck**. |
| **Deck not found. Please regenerate the deck.** | Click **Regenerate Deck**. |
