# Export a document, print, or save as PDF

> Save a strategy brief, research report or proposal to Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive or Box with Export to Docs, or open it in the browser to print or save as PDF.

The document toolbar gives you two ways to get a strategy brief, research report or [proposal](/docs/strategy/proposals) out of StratEngine. **Export to Docs** saves a copy to your connected export destination. **View in Browser** opens a formatted version in a new tab, where you can print it or save it as a PDF.

Exporting makes a copy. The document stays in StratEngine, unchanged.

## Export to Docs

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the document">
    Open the strategy brief, research report or proposal, for example from **File Manager**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Click Export to Docs">
    Click **Export to Docs** in the toolbar. The button shows **Exporting...** while StratEngine creates the file.

    If you haven't connected an export destination yet, a window opens so you can connect one first. See [Connect cloud storage](/docs/account/connections).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the file">
    The new file opens in a new tab. A **View Doc** link is added to the toolbar so you can reopen it later.
  </Step>
</Steps>

### Where the file goes

| Export destination | File type | Location |
| - | - | - |
| Google Drive | Google Doc | `StratEngine/Strategy Briefs/` |
| Dropbox, OneDrive or Box | Word file (DOCX) | `StratEngine/Strategy Briefs/` |

StratEngine creates the `StratEngine/Strategy Briefs/` folder the first time you export. It sits at the top level of your storage, or inside the export folder you chose in **Settings**, the same as memo exports. See [Choose an export folder](/docs/account/connections#choose-an-export-folder).

Files are named **Strategy Brief - *project* - *company* - *date***, for example "Strategy Brief - Q3 Expansion - Acme Robotics - 2026-10-08". Research reports and proposals use the same naming.

Each export creates a new file. Exporting again after you edit the document doesn't overwrite an earlier copy, so you can keep versions side by side.

## View in Browser, print or save as PDF

**View in Browser** opens the document in a new tab with a clean reading layout and a table of contents. From there you can print it or save it as a PDF.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Click View in Browser">
    Click **View in Browser** in the toolbar.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose branding">
    If you have [brand kits](/docs/strategy/decks/brand-kits), the **Document branding** window opens: **Choose the palette this document is rendered with.** Pick a kit or **No branding (StratEngine theme)** and click **Open**. If you have no brand kits, the document opens straight away.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Print or save as PDF">
    In the new tab, click **Print**. In your browser's print dialog, choose a printer, or choose "Save as PDF" (the wording varies by browser) as the destination.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The printed version drops the page header, buttons and table of contents and uses black text on white for clean printing.

The tab's toolbar also has:

* **Copy**, which copies the whole document with its formatting, ready to paste into an email or a document. You'll see **Copied to clipboard**.
* **×**, which closes the tab.

If the new tab doesn't open, your browser blocked it. Allow pop-ups for StratEngine and try again. See [Troubleshooting](/docs/account/troubleshooting#a-new-tab-or-window-doesnt-open).
