# File Manager

> Find every strategy brief, framework, proposal, research report and deck you've made, filter by type, and rename, duplicate or delete them.

**File Manager** lists everything you've generated in StratEngine: strategy briefs, frameworks, proposals, research reports, decks and exported Google Slides presentations, newest first. Click an item to open it. Use the **⋮** menu on a row to update its status, rename, duplicate or delete it.

<Note>
  File Manager shows only your own work. Strategy briefs, frameworks, proposals, research reports and decks are private to the person who made them, even inside a shared workspace.
</Note>

## Open File Manager

Click **File Manager** in the side menu. The page is titled **My Files**. If you haven't made anything yet, it says **No projects yet** and offers **Start a strategy**.

## Find a file

* **Filter by type:** under **Filters**, open the **Type** list and tick one or more types: **Frameworks**, **Presentations**, **Decks**, **Strategy Briefs**, **Proposals** or **Research**. Choose **All Types** to show everything again.
* **Search:** use **Search generated files...** at the top of any page to find a file by name. See [Finding your way around](/docs/strategy/navigation).
* **Refresh:** click **Refresh** to reload the list, for example after a long analysis finishes in another tab.

Each row shows the file's name, when it was last updated and its status.

## What each type opens

| Type | Clicking it |
| - | - |
| **Strategy Briefs** | Opens the brief in the document viewer. See [Strategy briefs and Edit with AI](/docs/strategy/strategy-briefs). |
| **Frameworks** | Opens the framework in the document viewer. See [Work with framework results](/docs/strategy/framework-results). |
| **Proposals** | Opens the proposal in the document viewer. See [Client proposals](/docs/strategy/proposals). |
| **Research** | Opens the research report. See [Research reports](/docs/strategy/research). |
| **Decks** | Opens the deck in a new browser tab. See [Generate a deck](/docs/strategy/decks/generate). |
| **Presentations** | Opens a deck you exported to Google Slides. See [Export a deck](/docs/strategy/decks/export). |

A deck is listed as its own row next to the brief it was built from. If the brief has changed since the deck was built, the deck row shows an **Outdated** badge. See [Outdated decks](/docs/strategy/decks/outdated).

## Statuses

Every file has a status you can use to keep track of your work.

| Status | Typical use |
| - | - |
| **Draft** | Work in progress. Duplicates start as drafts. |
| **Complete** | Finished. |
| **Reviewing** | Presentations only: under review. |
| **Discarded** | Kept for reference, but no longer in use. |

To change it, click **⋮** on the row, choose **Update Status**, pick a status and click **Update**.

## Rename a file

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the menu">
    Click **⋮** on the row and choose **Rename**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter the new name">
    Type it in **Name** and click **Rename**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Renaming changes the name in StratEngine only. It doesn't rename copies you've already exported to your storage.

## Duplicate a file

Click **⋮** on the row and choose **Duplicate**. The copy appears in the list as "*name* - Copy" (or just "Copy" if the original had no name) with the status **Draft**.

The copy includes the brief or research text, the framework results and the inputs you entered, so you can open it and keep working. It doesn't include the deck or its share links. Generate a new deck from the copy if you need one. Duplicating a presentation also makes a copy of the Google Slides file.

## Delete a file

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the menu">
    Click **⋮** on the row and choose **Delete**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm">
    StratEngine asks **Are you sure?** Click **Delete** to confirm.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Warning>
  Deleting can't be undone. Deleting a strategy brief also deletes the deck built from it, and any share links for that deck stop working. Copies you exported to your storage aren't affected.
</Warning>

Deck rows have no **⋮** menu. A deck belongs to its brief: open the brief to regenerate, share or export the deck.
