# Run Kotter 8 Step Change Process in StratEngine

> Plan a company change effort stage by stage with the Kotter 8 Step Change Process in StratEngine, from creating urgency to anchoring it in culture.

The Kotter 8 Step Change Process in StratEngine turns a change your company is making into a plan across eight stages, from creating urgency to anchoring the change in culture. It's built for leading a specific change, such as a restructuring or a new strategy, rather than assessing the company in general. It needs the Professional plan or pay-as-you-go.

  The Kotter 8 Step Change Process carries the **Advanced** badge. It's included on the Professional plan and higher, and pay-as-you-go accounts can run it per analysis. ## When to use it

* You're about to launch a transformation, restructuring or culture shift and want a plan for leading it.
* A change effort is underway but stalling, and you want to see which stage needs work.
* You need to explain to a team or board how a change will be rolled out.

## What you get

The **Components** tab has a **Framework Summary** and one **Framework Details** section for each stage:

* **Create Urgency**
* **Build a Guiding Coalition**
* **Form a Vision and Strategy**
* **Communicate the Vision**
* **Empower Action**
* **Generate Short Term Wins**
* **Consolidate Gains**
* **Anchor in Culture**

Every section is editable, and **Sources** lists what the analysis cited. Standard and Deep runs also fill the **Momentum** tab (trends affecting the company), which means Essential and higher plans, or pay-as-you-go at Standard or Deep. Deep runs add the **Assumptions** tab (what the analysis depends on, by risk), which means Professional, or pay-as-you-go at Deep. ## Run it

    In the side menu, under **Quick Frameworks**, click **Generate Framework**.

  <Step title="Select Kotter 8 Step Change Process">
    Find **Kotter 8 Step Change Process** under **Organizational & Change Management** and click **Select**.

  <Step title="Fill in the business context">
    Complete the **Business Context** fields. See [Generate a framework](/docs/strategy/generate-framework) for what each one asks.

    Under **Framework Inputs (Optional)**, the framework asks for **Change Description** and **Current Stage of Change**. Describe the specific change in **Change Description**. Saying whether you're just starting, mid-flight or struggling to sustain it in **Current Stage of Change** helps the plan focus on the right stages.

    Click **Continue**.

    On pay-as-you-go, pick an **Analysis depth**. Then click **Generate Framework**.
