# Run Porter's Five Forces in StratEngine

> Run Porter's Five Forces on your company in StratEngine to see how competitive pressure shapes your industry. Needs Essential or higher.

Porter's Five Forces in StratEngine shows how attractive your industry is by rating the five competitive pressures on your company, from rivalry to the threat of new entrants. It looks at the market around you rather than at your own operations. You need the Essential plan or higher, or a pay-as-you-go account.

<Note>
  Porter's Five Forces is included in the Essential plan and higher, and pay-as-you-go accounts can run it too. It carries the **Growth** badge. On the Free plan, its card shows **Upgrade** instead of **Select**. See [Strategy plans](/docs/strategy/billing/plans).
</Note>

## When to use it

* You're entering a new market or industry and want to know how hard it will be to make money there.
* Margins are under pressure and you want to see whether customers, suppliers or substitutes are the cause.
* You're preparing a strategy or investor conversation and need a structured view of the competitive landscape.

## What you get

The result opens on the **Components** tab. **Framework Summary** gives an **Executive Summary**, and **Sources** lists what the analysis cited.

Under **Framework Details**, you get one section for each part of the framework:

* **Competitive Rivalry**
* **Supplier Power**
* **Buyer Power**
* **Threat of Substitution**
* **Threat of New Entry**

Standard and Deep runs also fill the **Momentum** tab (trends affecting the company), which means Essential and higher plans, or pay-as-you-go at Standard or Deep. Deep runs add the **Assumptions** tab (what the analysis depends on, by risk), which means Professional, or pay-as-you-go at Deep. See [Work with framework results](/docs/strategy/framework-results) and [Analysis depth](/docs/strategy/analysis-depth).
