# Run Price Position Analysis in StratEngine

> Run a Price Position Analysis in StratEngine to see where your pricing sits against competitors and how to reposition. Essential plan and up.

A Price Position Analysis run shows where the pricing of the company you describe sits against competitors relative to perceived quality, whether that position makes sense, and what moves would get it to a better one. It assesses positioning; it doesn't calculate a price for you. It's a **Growth** framework, so you need the Essential plan or higher.

<Note>
  Price Position Analysis is available on Essential and Professional plans, and on pay-as-you-go. On Free it shows an **Upgrade** button instead of **Select**. See [Strategy plans](/docs/strategy/billing/plans).
</Note>

## When to use it

* You suspect you're priced too high or too low for what customers get.
* You keep losing deals on price and want to know whether the problem is price or perceived quality.
* You're planning a price change or new packaging and want to see the competitive picture first.

## What you get

The **Components** tab opens with an **Executive Summary**, then six sections under **Framework Details**:

* **Competitive Price Landscape**
* **Current Position**
* **Alignment Verdict**
* **Target Position**
* **Repositioning Moves**
* **Positioning Risks**

A **Sources** list shows what the analysis cited. Standard and Deep runs also fill the **Momentum** tab (trends affecting the company), which means Essential and higher plans, or pay-as-you-go at Standard or Deep. Deep runs add the **Assumptions** tab (what the analysis depends on, by risk), which means Professional, or pay-as-you-go at Deep. See [Work with framework results](/docs/strategy/framework-results) and [Analysis depth](/docs/strategy/analysis-depth).

## Run it

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Generate Framework">
    In the side menu, under **Quick Frameworks**, click **Generate Framework**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select Price Position Analysis">
    Under **Positioning & Strategic Analysis**, find **Price Position Analysis** and click **Select**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Describe the business">
    Fill in the **Business Context** fields. See [Generate a framework](/docs/strategy/generate-framework) for what each field means.

    Under **Framework Inputs (Optional)**, Price Position Analysis asks for:

    * **Who You Compete With and What They Charge**: three to five companies you lose deals to and their prices, as specifically as you can.
    * **What You Charge Today**: your prices, packages or tiers, how often you discount, and how long the price has held. Say if you aren't selling yet.
    * **Where You Are Better or Worse**: what you do better and worse than the alternatives, and whether a buyer can tell before buying.

    These inputs matter more here than for most frameworks, because public pricing data is often incomplete. Click **Continue**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Generate">
    On pay-as-you-go, pick a depth under **Analysis depth**. On a subscription plan, the run uses the deepest depth your plan includes. Click **Generate Framework**.
  </Step>
</Steps>
