# Run Profit Pools Analysis in StratEngine

> See where profit concentrates across your industry's value chain and where your company should compete, with Profit Pools Analysis in StratEngine.

Profit Pools Analysis in StratEngine maps where profit sits across your industry's value chain, then compares that with where your company plays today. The result points to the segments most worth competing in. It needs the Professional plan or pay-as-you-go.

<Note>
  Profit Pools Analysis carries the **Advanced** badge. It's included on the Professional plan and higher, and pay-as-you-go accounts can run it per analysis. On other plans its card shows **Upgrade** instead of **Select**. See [Strategy plans](/docs/strategy/billing/plans) and [pricing](https://stratengineai.com/#pricing).
</Note>

## When to use it

* You're deciding whether to move up or down the value chain, for example into services or distribution.
* Revenue is growing but margins aren't, and you suspect you're in a low-profit part of the industry.
* You're comparing segments of an industry before entering it.

## What you get

The **Components** tab has a **Framework Summary** and these **Framework Details** sections:

* **Value Chain Segments**
* **Profit Distribution**
* **High Profit Pools**
* **Strategic Implications**

Every section is editable, and **Sources** lists what the analysis cited. Standard and Deep runs also fill the **Momentum** tab (trends affecting the company), which means Essential and higher plans, or pay-as-you-go at Standard or Deep. Deep runs add the **Assumptions** tab (what the analysis depends on, by risk), which means Professional, or pay-as-you-go at Deep. See [Work with framework results](/docs/strategy/framework-results) and [Analysis depth](/docs/strategy/analysis-depth).

## Run it

    Under **Framework Inputs (Optional)**, Profit Pools Analysis asks for **Industry Value Chain Map**, **Known Profit Concentration** and **Where the Company Plays Today**. The app's hint notes that without a value chain map the analysis may guess at the industry's structure, so a short list of stages is worth adding.

    Click **Continue**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Generate">
    On pay-as-you-go, pick an **Analysis depth**. Then click **Generate Framework**.
