# Run Strategic Pricing Pyramid in StratEngine

> Run the Strategic Pricing Pyramid in StratEngine to build a pricing strategy from customer value up to price level. Needs Essential or higher.

The Strategic Pricing Pyramid in StratEngine builds your pricing strategy in five layers, starting with the value you create and ending with the price itself. Each layer supports the one above, so the price is the last thing decided. You need the Essential plan or higher, or a pay-as-you-go account.

<Note>
  Strategic Pricing Pyramid is included in the Essential plan and higher, and pay-as-you-go accounts can run it too. It carries the **Growth** badge. On the Free plan, its card shows **Upgrade** instead of **Select**. See [Strategy plans](/docs/strategy/billing/plans).
</Note>

## When to use it

* You're setting prices for a new product or service.
* You think you're undercharging, or customers push back on price, and you want to know why.
* You're redesigning packages, tiers or discount rules.

## What you get

The result opens on the **Components** tab. **Framework Summary** gives an **Executive Summary**, and **Sources** lists what the analysis cited.

Under **Framework Details**, you get one section for each part of the framework:

* **Value Creation**
* **Price Structure**
* **Price and Value Communication**
* **Pricing Policy**
* **Price Level**

Standard and Deep runs also fill the **Momentum** tab (trends affecting the company), which means Essential and higher plans, or pay-as-you-go at Standard or Deep. Deep runs add the **Assumptions** tab (what the analysis depends on, by risk), which means Professional, or pay-as-you-go at Deep. See [Work with framework results](/docs/strategy/framework-results) and [Analysis depth](/docs/strategy/analysis-depth).

## Run it

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Generate Framework">
    In the side menu, under **Quick Frameworks**, click **Generate Framework**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select Strategic Pricing Pyramid">
    Under **Select Framework**, find **Strategic Pricing Pyramid** in the **Market & Product Strategy** group and click **Select**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Describe the business">
    Fill in the **Business Context** fields: company name, business summary, industry, target customer and so on. See [Generate a framework](/docs/strategy/generate-framework) for what each field needs, and for loading a saved company or autofilling from a document.

    Then, under **Framework Inputs (Optional)**, answer the questions specific to Strategic Pricing Pyramid:

    | Field | What to enter |
    | - | - |
    | **What Customers Would Buy Instead** | The alternative customers would use if not you, and what it costs them. Include doing nothing or doing it in-house if that's the real alternative. |
    | **What Customers Gain By Choosing You** | What customers get that the alternative doesn't, such as money saved, revenue earned or time back. Add numbers where you have them. |
    | **How You Charge Today** | What you charge for (per user, per job, per month, per outcome), your packages or tiers, and when you discount. |
    | **Customer Groups That Value You Differently** | Types of customers who get more or less from what you sell, and any sign they'd pay different amounts. |

    Click **Continue**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Pick a depth and generate">
    On a subscription plan there's no depth choice here: the framework runs at the deepest depth your plan includes. On pay-as-you-go, choose **Quick Scan**, **Standard** or **Deep** under **Analysis depth**. Click **Generate Framework**. The app shows the processing time for that depth, from **\~2 min** for Quick Scan to **\~8 min** for Deep.
  </Step>
