# Run VRIO in StratEngine

> Run a VRIO analysis in StratEngine to test which of your company's resources give it a lasting competitive advantage. Professional plan.

A VRIO run tests the resources and capabilities of the company you describe to find which ones give it an advantage competitors can't easily copy. It's an **Advanced** framework, so you need the Professional plan.

<Note>
  VRIO is available on the Professional plan and on pay-as-you-go. On Free and Essential it shows an **Upgrade** button instead of **Select**. See [Strategy plans](/docs/strategy/billing/plans).
</Note>

## When to use it

* You want to know which strengths are real advantages and which competitors could match.
* You're deciding which capabilities to protect, invest in or stop funding.
* You've made a big investment or acquisition and want to see whether it changed the company's position.

## What you get

The **Components** tab opens with an **Executive Summary**, then four sections under **Framework Details**:

* **Valuable**
* **Rare**
* **Inimitable**
* **Organized**

A **Sources** list shows what the analysis cited. Standard and Deep runs also fill the **Momentum** tab (trends affecting the company), which means Essential and higher plans, or pay-as-you-go at Standard or Deep. Deep runs add the **Assumptions** tab (what the analysis depends on, by risk), which means Professional, or pay-as-you-go at Deep. See [Work with framework results](/docs/strategy/framework-results) and [Analysis depth](/docs/strategy/analysis-depth).

## Run it

    Under **Framework Inputs (Optional)**, VRIO asks for:

    * **Key Resources and Capabilities**: the assets you think drive the company's position, such as technology, brand, customer relationships, talent or data.
    * **Recent Strategic Moves**: major investments, acquisitions or capability builds in the last 12 months.

    Naming the resources yourself keeps the analysis focused on the ones you care about. Click **Continue**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Generate">
    On pay-as-you-go, pick a depth under **Analysis depth**. On a subscription plan, the run uses the deepest depth your plan includes. Click **Generate Framework**.
