# Auto-ingest decks from a folder or email

> Have StratEngine analyze new pitch decks from a watched Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive folder, or from decks you forward by email.

StratEngine can pick up pitch decks without an upload in two ways. **Folder watch** checks one cloud folder every 2 hours and analyzes new PDF and PPTX files in it. **Email forwarding** analyzes decks you send as attachments to your personal address at `in.stratengineai.com`. Both produce the same memos as an upload and land in **Analysis Memos**.

<Note>
  Any workspace admin can set up folder watch, in the **Pitch deck folder** onboarding step or later in **Settings** under **Pitch Deck Folder Watch Location**. Every VC user has their own forwarding address in **Settings**. Decks from either source count toward your memo allowance like uploads; see [VC plans and memo overages](/docs/vc/billing/plans).
</Note>

## Watch a folder

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the panel">
    In **Settings**, scroll to **Pitch Deck Folder Watch Location**. (During onboarding, it's the **Auto-ingest pitch decks from a folder** step.)
  </Step>

  <Step title="Connect storage if asked">
    If no storage is connected, the panel shows **Connect a storage provider**. Click **Connect storage provider**, choose Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive, and sign in. Once storage is connected, the panel shows **Not watching** until you choose a folder.

    Connecting a provider here also makes it your export destination, so new memos are saved to that storage. See [Export memos](/docs/vc/export-memos#memos-saved-straight-to-storage).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Paste the folder URL">
    Open the folder in your provider in another tab and copy the URL from the address bar (not a Share link). Paste it into the field.

    | Provider | URL looks like |
    | - | - |
    | Google Drive | `https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/...` |
    | Dropbox | `https://www.dropbox.com/home/...` |
    | OneDrive (Personal) | `https://onedrive.live.com/...` |
    | OneDrive (Business) | A `sharepoint.com` URL ending in the folder's path |
  </Step>

  <Step title="Click Start watching">
    The panel switches to **Active** and shows the folder path.
  </Step>
</Steps>

### What the Active panel shows

| Line | Meaning |
| - | - |
| Summary, such as **3 analysed · 1 in progress** | Totals for files picked up from the folder. **Monitoring for new files. None seen yet.** means nothing has arrived. |
| **Checks every 2 hours** | With the time until the next check, such as **Next check in \~1h 20m**. |
| **Recent activity** | The latest six files with a status: **Queued**, **Done**, **Failed** or **Retrying**. Click the refresh icon to update it. Before any file arrives, it shows **No files yet.** and explains that new files appear after the next check, which runs every 2 hours. |

A file shows **Retrying** when the storage provider asked StratEngine to slow down; it's picked up again automatically. The same version of a file is only analyzed once.

### Change or stop

* **Change folder** stops the current watch and shows the URL field again.
* **Stop watching** stops checking the folder. Memos already created stay in **Analysis Memos**.

### If setup fails

| Message | Fix |
| - | - |
| **Paste the folder URL from your browser while viewing the folder.** | The field was empty. |
| **Folder not found. Make sure your connection has access to it.** | Use a folder the connected account can open, and copy the URL while viewing it. |
| **Google Drive read access wasn't granted.** | Click **Reconnect Google Drive →** and tick the box that lets StratEngine see your Drive files. |
| **You need admin access on this workspace.** | Ask a workspace admin. |

## Forward decks by email

Your forwarding address is in **Settings**, in the **Or forward decks by email** box. Admins see the box at the top of the folder watch panel. Members see it on its own under **Pitch Deck Forwarding Address**, without the folder controls. Click **Copy** to copy the address. If the address isn't ready yet, members see **Your forwarding address will appear here once it is ready.**

<Steps>
  <Step title="Attach the deck">
    Forward or send an email with the PDF or PPTX attached to your forwarding address. You can attach more than one deck.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Send from your StratEngine email">
    Send from the same address you sign in to StratEngine with. Email from any other address is rejected.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Find the memo">
    The deck appears in the **Processing Queue** if the **Upload** page is open, and the memo lands in **Analysis Memos** when it's done.
  </Step>
</Steps>

If there's no attachment, StratEngine looks for a Google Drive, OneDrive or SharePoint, or iCloud Mail Drop link in the email and downloads the deck from it. The link must be shared so anyone with it can open it.

### If a forwarded deck is rejected

You get a reply titled **Pitch deck not accepted** with the reason:

| Reason | Fix |
| - | - |
| The email didn't come from your registered address | Forward it again from the email you sign in with. |
| No PDF or PPTX was attached | Attach the deck file itself. |
| A link was found but couldn't be opened | Change the link's sharing to "Anyone with the link" and send again. |
| The deck is over Google's scan threshold | Attach the file instead of linking to it. |

<Tip>
  The forwarding address belongs to you, not the workspace. Memos it creates are listed under your account and visible to your whole workspace, like any other memo.
