# Onboarding

> The VC onboarding steps by role, which ones you can skip, how resuming works, and finishing skipped steps from Home.

VC onboarding has three steps for members and four for workspace admins: **Profile**, **Framework**, **Private documents**, and (admins only) **Pitch deck folder**. Only Profile is required. Steps you skip come back as reminders on Home until you finish them.

## Steps

| # | Step | Who sees it | Required |
| - | - | - | - |
| 1 | **Profile** | Everyone | Yes |
| 2 | **Framework** | Everyone | No |
| 3 | **Private documents** | Everyone | No |
| 4 | **Pitch deck folder** | Workspace admins | No |

The header shows **Step N of M** and a progress rail. **Back** returns to the previous step. **Sign out** is in the top right.

### Profile

**Tell us about yourself.** **Full name** and **Job title** are required. **Company**, **Company size**, **Industry** and **How did you hear about us?** are optional, but if you choose **Other** in a dropdown, fill in its text box. Click **Continue**.

### Framework

**How should StratEngine evaluate deals?** Your framework sets the categories, weights and scoring anchors behind every memo.

* **Use StratEngine AI framework:** start with the default and move on. StratEngine records this step as skipped, so Home shows a reminder until you create a custom framework.
* **Create custom framework:** opens the framework editor in place. Saving the framework completes the step; going back returns you to the two choices.

See [Custom scoring frameworks](/docs/vc/scoring-frameworks) for the editor.

### Private documents

**Add private documents.** Upload thesis documents, past memos, IC notes or founder diligence. StratEngine searches them alongside public sources when it analyzes a deck. They're visible to everyone in your workspace. **Skip for now** disappears once you've uploaded a file; click **Continue** to move on. See [Private documents](/docs/vc/private-documents).

### Pitch deck folder (admins)

**Auto-ingest pitch decks from a folder.** Connect Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive, pick a folder, and StratEngine analyzes new decks dropped into it. Click **Continue** or **Skip for now**. See [Auto-ingest decks from a folder or email](/docs/vc/folder-watch).

<Note>
  The Pitch deck folder step appears only for workspace admins. After onboarding, any admin finds the same panel in **Settings** under **Pitch Deck Folder Watch Location**. Members see their forwarding address there under **Pitch Deck Forwarding Address**.
</Note>

## Resuming

Your progress is saved each time you finish or skip a step. If you close the tab or sign out, you return to the same step next time you sign in. Until onboarding is finished, StratEngine sends you back to it whichever page you open.

## Finishing

After the last step, a **You're set.** card says **Your workspace is ready.** Click **Analyze your first pitch deck** to go straight to the **Upload** page. Continue with [Quickstart: your first memo](/docs/vc/quickstart).

## Finish skipped steps from Home

Skipped steps show as rows on Home. Each row disappears once the work is done, wherever you do it.

| Skipped step | Home reminder | Button | Goes to |
| - | - | - | - |
| Private documents | Add private documents for your analyses | **Add →** | **Settings** (hidden once your workspace has any uploaded document) |
| Framework | Pick or build a framework | **Set up →** | The framework editor (hidden once you have a custom framework) |
| Pitch deck folder | Auto-ingest pitch decks from a folder | **Set up →** | **Settings** (shown to admins only; hidden once a folder is being watched) |
